John 2: 23-25
Now while he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Feast, many people saw the miraculous signs he was doing believed in his name. But Jesus would not entrust himself to them, for he knew all men. He did not need man's testimony about man, for he knew what was in a man.
Our Lord knows us better than we know ourselves. When Jesus was still on earth, many people followed Him not necessarily because they loved Him, or they were willing to commit their lives to Him. Many people followed Jesus because they might be fed, their illness might be healed, or they might be helped from sufferings, or many others came to Jesus because they liked His teachings that would fill some of their needs. They all had their different motives other than their true love for Jesus.
When they came to realize that Jesus Christ was not the one they had expected, who would deliver them from the Roman's rule, they immediately made an about turn and wanted to nail Him on the cross. Brothers and sisters, let us ask for God's help so that we may understand our motives in following Christ. Many a time, we may not be sure of our own motives, but God is one who examines our hearts and he knows our thoughts. We should, therefore, ask the Holy Spirit to illuminate us because quite often we are living in our own righteousness. This is like a person cleaning his house in the dark unable to see the dirt. But when light shines in , he would see dust and cobwebs everywhere. Our lives are in a similar situation. Only when the light of the Holy Spirit shines upon us, we would then come to see the darkness and filths in our lives.
When partaking holy communion, many Christians are looking left and right while holding the cup and bread waiting for the pastor to announce, "Let us take this cup and bread." We are unable to think of the sins we might have committed no matter how hard we try. How pitiful this it! We are not sure if we really love Jesus and follow Him willingly? Are we truly willing to submit to His sovereignty, and honor Him as our Lord? May the Lord illuminate us, let Jesus come into our lives so that He would become not only our savior, but also the Lord of our lives. Let His light takes away our darkness so that we can love and follow Him with all our hearts and mind, so that His desires may be fulfilled.
