John 5:30-38

".... Not that I accepted human testimony; but I mention it that you may be saved.  John was a lamp that burned and gave light, and you chose for a time to enjoy this light.  I have testimony weightier than that of John.  For the very work that the Father has given to me has sent me   And the Father who sent me has himself testified concerning me.  You have never heard his voice nor seen his form, nor does his word dwell in you, for you do not believe the one he sent."

At that time, the crowd did not believe Jesus was the Messiah, Jesus therefore revealed  that not only did John the Baptist testified for Him,  but so did God the Father.  When Jesus appeared, John the Baptist pointed to Jesus and declared, "Look, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world."  John the Baptist knew his identify and role : He had only one mission - that is he would proclaim that  Jesus is the Messiah and Savior.  Nevertheless, people's hearts were blinded and rebellious.  They were unwilling to repent even they had heard the testimony of John the Baptist.

Jesus said, "Not only did John the Baptist testified for me,  but also the Father had  testified concerning me."  There were two testimonies from God concerning Jesus Christ.   One was the words of the prophets and the laws.  The other was Jesus' death on the cross and His resurrection on the third day.  Even though the Jews were knowledgeable about the words of the prophets and the laws, they were blinded from the understanding the truth about Jesus Christ because their hearts were rebellious to the words of the prophets and they misused the essence of the law which points them to Jesus.  God had, indeed, revealed to them in the past, but was rejected.

In addition, God had also testified concerning Jesus - that is through the death of Jesus Christ on the cross and His resurrection on the third day.   The great power of His death and resurrection   fully manifested that He is the Son of God.   As we look back, Jesus , indeed, was raised from the dead!  He truly accomplished God's salvation!  The choices are here today:   are we rebellious, resisting,  and rejecting God like the Jews did in those days?    Or are we willing to accept Jesus Christ as our true Savior?  Let us joyfully follow this Savior who loves us and is willing to give up His life for us!

Pray with Pastor Tong

Dear Lord, we thank You for You have shown Your love for us with  all the shame and rejection You have  endured. We pray that we are drawn to you because of the love You have shown us on the cross. Let us follow You closely every day of our lives.  With thanks we pray in the victorious name of Jesus, Amen!
