Luke 9:10-17
"He replied, 'You give them something to eat.' They answered, 'We have only five loaves of bread and two fish--unless we go and buy food for all this crowd.' (About five thousand men were there.) But he said to his disciples, 'Have them sit down in groups of about fifty each.' The disciples did so, and everybody sat down. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke them. Then he gave them to the disciples to set before the people. They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over."
The Lord fed five thousand people with five loaves of bread and two fish, but the miracle started with just one command from the Lord to the disciples. In verse 13, the Lord said "you give them something to eat." If you were one of the disciples, how would you feel? Why did the Lord say that? John 6:6 says the Lord instructed the disciples in such way in order to test whether the disciples were obedient. Although it seemed impossible given the circumstance, can we believe it by faith instead of by sight, obey the Lord's command and offer all that we have so that God can use it? God can use whatever we bring forth to Him to perform a miracle.
Did you know that God tests us? Why did God ask Abraham to bring Isaac to Mount Moriah? It's because God wanted to test him. Why did God allow the Israelites to live in the wilderness for 40 years? It is in order to test them. Let us ask God to help us to be sensitive to the circumstances that He's testing us with. Whenever we are sitting in a junction in our life, we often can't see the road ahead of us, but that is the time to lift our eyes and courageously submit to God's will by faith, not by sight. We will eventually realize that God will provide right ahead of us. In this miracle, God provided plenty of food, so much that there were twelve baskets of leftover. To have that much leftover, five loaves and two fish need to be offered. What are your five loaves and two fish? Sometimes you may think that "Lord, this is all I have, and you will take it too?" We don't understand, however, that God is testing us.
Are you willing to let your life be filled with miracles? Let us learn this lesson by faith, ask God to give us a sensitive heart, and do not miss any tests from God in our life. While we are being tested, let us depend on Him by faith, and let us listen to what He wants to tell us and how He wants to guide us.
