Luke 11:47-53
'Woe to you, because you build tombs for the prophets, and it was your forefathers who killed them. So you testify that you approve of what your forefathers did; they killed the prophets, and you build their tombs. Because of this, God in his wisdom said, "I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will kill and others they will persecute." Therefore this generation will be held responsible for the blood of all the prophets that has been shed since the beginning of the world, from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who was killed between the altar and the sanctuary. Yes, I tell you, this generation will be held responsible for it all.'
Jesus rebuked the Pharisees and teachers of law for killing the prophets of God. They did not follow the law of God, and when God sent prophets to rebuke them, they killed those prophets. While the Pharisees and teachers of law did acknowledge that their ancestors killed the prophets of God, they didn't understand that what they were doing was wrong. In fact, they were still walking on the path of their ancestors because they wanted to nail Jesus Christ on the cross. The greatest weakness of people is that we usually don't really know our own weakness, and we often have the same spirit as the Pharisees inside us. For example, after David committed sin by marrying the wife of Uriah and sending Uriah to the battlefield to die, Prophet Nathan went to visit David. He told David the story of a rich family that had lots of livestock, and a poor family besides the rich one that had only one lamb; it was precious to them and they slept with it every night. One day the rich family had a feast, but instead of taking out one of their own livestock, they killed the only lamb that the poor family had. David was furious after hearing this story, and he said the rich man deserves to die. Then, Prophet Nathan told him that he is actually that rich man.
In our life, there are things that are concealed to us. Let us examine ourselves to see whether there is any darkness inside us that needs to be cleansed by the Lord's precious blood. We want to be able to stand before God to serve Him. May the Holy Spirit enlighten us so that we won't walk on the path of Pharisees and teachers of law, and may God help us to become faithful servants who will follow God's will wholeheartedly.
