Luke 18:18-19
A certain ruler asked him, "Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?" "Why do you call me good?" Jesus answered. "No one is good - except God alone.
A rich ruler came to Jesus. Even though he had everything, he was not satisfied inside, and that's why he came to Jesus to inquire about the way of life. He, however, had a fundamental misunderstanding towards Jesus: He thought Jesus was merely a great teacher. Many people today always regard Jesus as a great teacher, religious leader and social reformer. These people have most likely not actually read the word of Jesus, because what Jesus said would have set Him apart from other great religious leaders and philosophers, who claim to the world: "I've found a way out, follow me!" Jesus, however, said that "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
Not on that, Jesus proclaimed many times that He is the son of the eternal God, and He's sent by God. Not only that his enemies could not point out any of his sins, even his family and disciples have testified that He's never sinned. It's easier to prevent your enemies from finding your fault, but it's difficult to have your family say that you are completely sin-free. Jesus also came back from death, which proved that He's the son of God and also He could overcome the authority of sin. Therefore, when this rich ruler called Jesus the "good teacher", Jesus immediately called out his mistake, because people cannot be truly good. He was saying to the ruler: "You thought I am good and that is right, and it's because I am God, for no one aside from God is good."
If we want to seek satisfaction in life, we first need to believe that Jesus is the Savior sent by God. Yutang Lin, a great Chinese literature scholar, accepted the Lord at old age, and he wrote a book called "From Pagan to Christian" to document his journey of faith. He made a conclusion in this book: Where people rationalized, Jesus taught; where people taught, Jesus commanded, and His entire lfe is a revelations. I know and I strongly believe that Jesus is the Lord, for only Jesus and no one else can lead us to directly encounter God. In we are looking for an ideal world, than Jesus is the ideal answer. Do you know the Lord Jesus? Have you ever encountered the true God?
