John 14: 5-6
Thomas said to them, "We don't know where you are going, so how can we know the way?" Jesus, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
First, Jesus said, "I am the way." 'The way symbolizes a direction. We are bewildered not because we do not have any choice, but rather too many choices. We used to have little choice in cold drinks in the past, but now we have Pepsi cola, Coca cola, and many other tasty drinks. Often times we do not make the right choices. It is alright to pick a wrong drink, but quite often we are at a lost when making the many choices in our lives.
You may ask, "How is our Lord the way?" But our Lord says He is the way, no one can receive the grace of the Father except through Jesus. The Lord had prepared the way to salvation so that we may become God's children coming to His throne of grace and receiving His help without fear every day. In addition, if it were not for Jesus, neither can we enjoy the presence of the Holy Spirit, nor the goodness and the guidance of this comforter. Our Lord is the way because only in Him can receive the wisdom in making the right choices every day.
The Lord also said, "I am the truth," when He was questioned by Pontius Pilate. Though he had asked Jesus many questions, he did not have time to listen to His replies. Even though he could not find anything wrong with Jesus, because of the pressure from the crowd, he had to give in to their demands. To Pontius Pilate, the truth was substituted by the voice of the crowd. The same is true in today's free society, we often regard the crowd's opinions as the truth. In reality, the truth of this world is deviant and will not persevere. Many school books have to be revised constantly, but the Lord we believe in will never waiver. He is the absolute truth; only when we are in Him can we enjoy the true freedom in our spirit.
Thirdly, the Lord said, "I am the life." This refers not only to our physical beings, but also our spiritual lives. There is a spiritual world in each one of us which cannot be fulfilled by anything in this world even the ones dearest to us. It is only the Lord, the Lord of our lives, understands all our inner feelings including all our joy and sorrow. Only He can fulfill and satisfy our spiritual needs. Brothers and sisters, is Jesus really your way, truth and life? If you are willing, Jesus will become your way, your truth and your life today!
