Luke 12:27-32
"Consider how the lilies grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith! And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well."
Jesus said, "seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." This prioritization cannot be reversed. It doesn't mean we don't need to seek our own satisfaction, but we ought to seek God's Kingdom and His righteousness first. God's Kingdom is the authority of God, where God reveals Himself; God righteousness is what God wants us to do faithfully in our daily life.
The church often gets the priority wrong; it becomes solely focused on itself without the ability to see the needs of others or to see the mission of God's Kingdom. The church should not be a 'love boat," but rather it should be a "life boat"; the church should not be an "ivory tower" and only seek self-satisfaction, but it should be a "light tower" to enlighten others. Many churches have become a place for Christians to share their meagerness, and the more they share the more meager they become, because the priority in God is wrong; the sparks from God's Kingdom are gone, and the momentum from God's Kingdom is lost.
One time, Jesus went to Samaria and He was hot and tired, so disciples rushed into town to buy food. Jesus ran into a Samaritan woman; He shared the gospel with her and she accepted the Lord, she then went around to share about what Jesus has done. Then, "...his disciples urged him, 'Rabbi, eat something.' But he said to them, 'I have food to eat that you know nothing about.' Then his disciples said to each other, 'Could someone have brought him food?' 'My food,' said Jesus, 'is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.'" The disciple kept on thinking about food and drink, but Jesus was thinking about Kingdom of God and His righteousness. Jesus doesn't want us to refrain from eating, but He wants to teach us the correct priority in life.
Many people are basically asleep in the church and have no momentum at all, because they have neglected the most basic will of God. The church should not be a parking lot which we just come in and stop, but it should be a gas station where we fill up and go out the serve. May God place such a determination inside us!
