In this passage, the Lord taught us some important principles of prayer. First, we must enter into our inner room. It doesn't mean we must be locked up in a room, but it's the inner room of our soul, which means we need to spend time before God. This time is devoted to God and us alone; it doesn't matter whether it takes place inside or outside a house, but the important thing is to enter into God's presence. We often forget about our spiritual life when we are busy, and we've dedicated very little time and space for God. Entering into a room means devoting a time and a place to be with God alone and not allow anything to interrupt.
.
Second, we must close the door, which means blocking all the deceptions and accusations from the enemy. In the victorious name of Jesus, we rebuke all the work of enemy Satan, and rebuke all the disbelief inside us. During this time, let us be with alone with God, remove all the influence from the world, and be completely before God to receive His grace and word.
.
Third, we must not "keep on babbling like pagans" when we pray. It means that we should have true faith before God. When we pray by faith and hold on to God when we pray, we will see tremendous impact of our prayer. We need to hold on to God tightly and pray as if we're in labor. The volume of our prayer is not important, but we must pray before God with true faith. That's why the Lord has taught us many times in the Bible that we ought to pray continuously and consistently without being discouraged.
.
Fourth, we must not imitate the pagans because our Father already knows what we need even before we start asking. It doesn't mean that we don't need to ask - We pray because we are demonstrating our humble attitude. When we come before God humbly and bring all that we need before Him, God will satisfy all our needs. Let us come before Him with such attitude in our daily life, and to experience His abundance and faithfulness through prayer.
