Jude 5-7

Though you already know all this, I want to remind you that the Lord delivered his people out of Egypt, but later destroyed those who did not believe. And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their own home-these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day. In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire.

Verse 5 says, "Though you already know all this, I want to remind you". This is such an important thing. Many times, although we may have heard a lot of teaching and know what we should do to obey God, we ultimately still live in the world and tend to be influenced by the world. This is such an important thing. Hence Judas says, "Although you may know the truth, I still want to remind you because you need to be reminded in order to live out the truth."

Judas reminded God's people that there are two distinct roads before God. One is God's way and the other is the way to destruction. We cannot have each foot in one of two boats. Often, the result of trying to keep our feet on two different boats is that we will fall into the water. There is often no "middle road" to take. We could choose the way of God's people, following God's will, or we could choose the way of the unbelievers, which is the way of the world that leads to destruction. The path that does not lead to everlasting life is the path of destruction.

Verse 6 refers to two types of angels. One of these types are God's angels, and the other type are those angels who did not keep their positions of authority, which God has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment. Similarly, verse 7 reminds us of Lot's family who were saved by God's grace, in contrast to the people of Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding towns who suffer the punishment of eternal fire as a result of their sexual immorality and perversion.

We see that before God, there are only two paths and two types of people. One type of people are those who follow God, while the other type are those who rebel against God. In Deuteronomy chapter 30, Moses urged the Israelites, " See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction." Today we either choose the path of life or the path of death. The way of the world may seem easy, but it gets narrower and narrower. Although the way of the Lord may seem narrow, as you walk along it, it widens up and brings you into the glory of God.

Pray with Pastor Tong Liu

Dear God, we thank you that you have set the truth clearly before us. We pray that you will not only know the truth, but will have the courage to live out the truth. May we choose to walk in Your way, the spiritual path that will widen up and bring us into your glory. We thank you and we pray in the victorious name of Jesus, amen!
