1 Timothy 1: 8-11

"We know that the law is good if one uses it properly. We also know that the law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, for the sexually immoral, for those practicing homosexuality, for slave traders and liars and perjurers-and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine......"

Paul said the law is just like a mirror with the purpose of letting people become conscious of their sins. Before we don't know about the filth, only after seeing the person in the mirror then we become conscious of our sins. Paul listed fourteen types of sin in groups of two; we have to examine ourselves after reading these offenses to see if we have sinned against God on these things.

1.       The lawbreakers and rebels: Law-breaking is disobedience, one who disobeys God's laws would not actively follow them, and it gives the devil opportunities to tempt him and lead him astray the path of God. The root of law-breaking is from our rebellious hearts.

2.       The ungodly and sinful: The godly person has God-fearing heart. A God-fearing person will follow God's words; a person that is not God-fearing will fear about the authority of this world, and follow the path of the world. What are your fears? One should fear the Lord, because He is the beginning of wisdom.

3.       The unholy and irreligious: The unholy may not necessarily commit murder or arson, irreligious is unholy. People like to have it both ways. It may be all right if they are in the same directions, otherwise that would pull them apart. The same goes to the unholy and irreligious; it's easy to stumble if the word of God is not in their hearts.

4.       Those who kill their fathers or mother and the murderers: Both are very serious crimes, sometimes the result of built-up resentment that often leads to violent behaviors. What a shame that the most beloved fathers and mothers can become enemies.

5.       The sexually immoral and those practicing homosexuality: Some people say the word "homosexuality" is not in the Bible; therefore God does not condemn this matter as sin. In fact the Bible uses different wordings in ancient times to highlight these types of sin; both sexual immorality and homosexuality are abomination of God.

6.        The slave traders and liars and perjurers: The Bible clearly rebukes all types of lying, it also says in Revelation 21:8, all those liars will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur!

Finally, whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine. Are you also in the bondage of sin? The law can help us become conscious of sin, but only the blood of the Lord has cleansing and healing power; come to receive the grace of the blood today!

Pray with Pastor Tong

Lord, may your light shine upon us, let us see our many transgressions. When we seek you, confess our sins, your blood will cleanse and wipe us, because in Christ there is grace of sin forgiven! We thank you and pray in the victorious name of Jesus, Amen!
