Luke 5:1-11

"He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat.  When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, 'Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.'  Simon answered, 'Master, we've worked hard all night and haven't caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.'  When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break.  So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.  When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus' knees and said, 'Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!'  For he and all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken..."

We often think that God doesn't understand our profession, so it's hard for us to entrust our career onto God's hands.  From this passage, however, we can see that God is the Lord of our career.  When He ordered Simon to put the boat out to deep water, the first reaction from Simon was: "You are an expert in preaching, but I am an expert in fishing.  Don't you think we have not tried fishing in deep water?  In fact, we labored all night last night but had no gain.  But since you are the master, I'll give your suggestion a try!"  Surprisingly, when they followed the word of God and let down the net, they caught a ton of fish, so much that both boats were filled.  When Simon Peter returned to shore, he kneeled before Jesus and acknowledged that he's a sinner, for he thought Jesus didn't know about fishing, but Jesus actually knew more than he did.

Isn't that our life as well?  We think God doesn't understand computer and accounting, but God already knows where the bug in the program is.  We often don't entrust our work onto His hands, but trying hard to debug by our own might and digging through a bunch of numbers to find the problem.  We exhaust all ideas but cannot resolve the problems, much like the disciples who labored all night but didn't catch any fish.  We need to learn to entrust our career onto God's hands, ask the Spirit of God to lead us and shine on us, open our hearts to really see how what we should do in our career.

When I was working in a company, I had to face a bunch of computer programs that needed to be debugged.  The most effective way to debug was to pray!  When I prayed, Spirit of God guided me to quickly identify the errors.  Very often we think God doesn't understand, but in reality God understands better than we do.  Let us humbly seek Him and entrust our career onto the Lord's hands, and we will experience God's abundant grace.

Dear Lord, please bless each brother and sister.  No matter what our job is, let them depend on you and entrust their career onto your hands.  You will personally open doors for them and let them experience breakthrough in their career.  I thank you and I pray in the victorious name of Jesus, amen!
