Luke 7:1-10

"There a centurion's servant, whom his master valued highly, was sick and about to die.  The centurion heard of Jesus and sent some elders of the Jews to him, asking him to come and heal his servant.  When they came to Jesus, they pleaded earnestly with him, 'This man deserves to have you do this, because he loves our nation and has built our synagogue.'  So Jesus went with them.  He was not far from the house when the centurion sent friends to say to him: 'Lord, don't trouble yourself, for I do not deserve to have you come under my roof.  That is why I did not even consider myself worthy to come to you. But say the word, and my servant will be healed.  For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me.  I tell this one, "Go," and he goes; and that one, "Come," and he comes. I say to my servant, "Do this," and he does it.'  When Jesus heard this, he was amazed at him, and turning to the crowd following him, he said, 'I tell you, I have not found such great faith even in Israel.'"

What kind of person is this centurion?  First of all, he is a loving person.  When his servant was sick, he cared for the servant and asked others to heal the servant, thus he really loved his servant.  Also, he did a lot of good deeds, and that's why when the elders of the Jews pleaded with Jesus, they said "This man deserves to have you do this."  The centurion must have done many good things in order for the Jews to like him so much.  In addition, he is also a humble person, because even though centurion is an important position, but he humbled himself and pleaded Jesus to heal his servant,

Nevertheless, his servant was healed not because of his great virtues, but because of his faith.  When Jesus went to his house, the centurion asked some of his friends to ask Jesus to "say the word, and my servant will be healed."  This is indeed manifestation of great faith!  We also need to come before God and learn from the example of such faith.  The foundation of faith should be in God's word, and we must believe in what we hear.  When we believe in God's word, the Spirit of God will do wonderful things in our life.  We need a word from Jesus every day in our life, and when He speaks, things will be done.  We must come before God every day and ask for a word, and let the word become the lamp to our feet and light to our path.  His word will help us in our daily life, and give us faith, motivation and the power of healing.

Dear Lord, we thank you and we want the faith of the centurion to become an example for us.  We ask for a word from you and we will let the word become the foundation of our faith and motivation for our life.  Let us experience that you are our true God.  I thank you and I pray in the victorious name of Jesus, amen!
