Today's Passage - 1 John 4:13-15

1 John 4:13-15

We know that we live in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit.  And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.  If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in him and he in God.

Many believers don't have good knowledge of work of the Holy Spirit, which often leads to misunderstanding.  One time, a brother came and asked me after a meeting: "What exactly is the Holy Spirit?"  Actually, the Holy Spirit is not a "what," but rather a "who."  First of all, the Bible tells us that Holy Spirit is true God, one entity out of God the Trinity.  Father, Son and Holy Spirit are equal yet function differently.  Father plans, Son executes and Holy Spirit completes.  When applies to salvation, Father made the entire plan of salvation, Son Jesus Christ was the word that became flesh and died for us on the cross, and Holy Spirit was the one brought life into us.

Second, Holy Spirit is the God who lives insides us.  In the Trinity, Holy Spirit actually has the closest relationship us.  The purpose for the Holy Spirit to live inside us is for us to know that we belong to God.  Therefore, the Bible clearly said that the Holy Spirit is like a seal on our heart.  What is a seal?  After you buy a book, sometimes you would stamp its inside cover with a big seal to show that the book belongs to you.  The seal of Holy Spirit show that you belong to God.  The most important thing in your life is to know who you really belong to.  If you belong to yourself, then you ought to worry, because your strength and wisdom are limited.  If you belong to God, however, then you should know that God will take the ultimate responsibility in your life.  When the Holy Spirit is living inside you, you should know that you are inside God, and God is inside you.

Third, Holy Spirit is also the God who gives us strength.  Acts 1:8 says that "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you..."  There are two types of power - The power to live, and the power to serve.  The power to live gives us strength to bear fruit of the Holy Spirit in our life, and the power to serves bring out the power from gifts of the Holy Spirit when we serve God.  May God help us not to take the work of the Holy Spirit lightly, but to welcome the Holy Spirit and welcome His gifts to flow freely in our life.

Pray with Pastor Tong

Lord, may you bless all brothers and sisters so that if we have any misunderstanding towards the Holy Spirit in our life, in the victorious name of the Jesus we rebuke the reception from the enemy and all its work.  Please put the Spirit of Truth inside us; let us welcome the work of the Holy Spirit, so that your authority may be manifested in our daily life.  I thank you and I pray in the victorious name of Jesus, amen!
