Today's Passage - 1 John 4:4-6

1 John 4:4-6

You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them. We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognize the Spirit of truth and the spirit of falsehood.

We always overlook the presence of the Lord in our busy life. Most times we are overwhelmed by the problems in our life, like problems at work, kid getting sick, unfruitful church ministry after great efforts, car breaking down, meeting company deadline... Busy, blind, and lost are the best words to describe our daily life. I always wonder what I am supposed to do and where I should go for help? Brothers and sisters, your help is not coming from the outside. Rather, it comes from within, from the resurrected savior. Verse 4 says here: "because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world." No matter how great your problem is at work, the one who is in you is greater than your problem. No matter how great your difficulty is in your marriage, the one who is in you is greater than your difficulty. No matter how much you are hurt by others, or even you are oppressed by the evil one and sickness, the Lord who is in you is still greater than the one who hurt you, or the evil one.

I still remember when I first went to visit Ms. Christiana Tsai, "Queen of the dark chamber", I didn't know how to talk to her. What would you say if you visit an old lady in her nineties who has been be
d-ridden for fifty years and has to stay in a dark chamber because her eyes can not be exposed to light? After I entered the dark chamber that day and finally got used to the darkness, the lady I saw was not like someone who has been suffering at all. She smiled at me and told me that even though she was bed-ridden, God still did a lot of wonderful things through her. Over the decades she never asked God why. She only asked God: "Lord, what would you like me to do now?" Many people accepted Jesus because of her, or got comforted by her. After hearing her speech, I felt warm inside by her spiritual inspiration. Suddenly I realized one thing: the one in her is greater than the one who is in the world. Indeed, there is one God who not only understand the pain deep in your heart, but also is greater than your difficulty. He is the resurrected Jesus Christ, our savior. And He is in you!

Pray with Pastor Tong Liu

Lord, we thank you. We proclaim in the name of Jesus that you have power on brothers and sisters. We also proclaim in the name of Jesus that the Spirit inside brothers and sisters is greater than the one who is in the world, the power of darkness in their workplace and family. Hallelujah! We thank you and we pray in the victorious name of Jesus, amen!
