Today's Passage - Matthew 9:27-31

Matthew 9:27-31

As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed him, calling out, "Have mercy on us, Son of David!" When he had gone indoors, the blind men came to him, and he asked them, "Do you believe that I am able to do this?" "Yes, Lord," they replied. Then he touched their eyes and said, "According to your faith will it be done to you"; and their sight was restored. Jesus warned them sternly, "See that no one knows about this." But they went out and spread the news about him all over that region.

When you are praying for healing, you need to understand a few principles: first, the way Jesus performed healing was not always through just one method set in stone. Jesus healed many blinds in the Bible, every time it was different. The first time, Jesus mixed His saliva and mud and put on the eyes of the blind. He command him to wash his eyes in the Pool of Siloam. Afterwards, the blind was able to see. Another time, the Lord put His saliva on the blind man's eyes, the blind was able to see immediately. This time, the Lord touched the blind men's eyes, and their eyes started seeing. We love to over analyze. E.g. since the Lord used His saliva, does saliva has special meaning? The Lord command the blind man to wash in the Pool of Siloam. Was the water in the Pool of Siloam especially holy? The Lord always works in His own way. So every time when we perform praying and healing, we have to humbly ask, "Lord, what do you want me to do this time?" We can not only follow one way all the time. We should keenly follow the lead of the holy spirit.

Second, the Lord's healing is inseparable from His mercy. These blind men cried out to the Lord. They grasped on to the mercy of the Lord so that Lord healed them out of His mercy. In the same principle, when we perform praying and healing, we need to grasp onto the mercy of the Lord. Praying is the most effective way to reach the mercy of God. When God is touched by us, He will listen to our prayer.

Third, the healing of the Lord has something to do with our faith. Here the Lord ask them, "Do you believe that I am able to do this?" They firmly answered, "We believe." Faith that is built on the understanding of our Lord can touch the heart of God and bring healings. When we come to God, may God help us to have a humble heart, to seek his healings. We also need to hold onto mercy of the Lord by praying to him and by looking upon him with our faith, so that grace of God will be upon us.

Prayer with Pastor Tong Liu

Lord, we pray for our brothers and sisters who are in sickness and pain. We ask everyone to place their hands on the parts of their body where there are sickness and pain. Trust in the Lord only. Pray that the Lord have mercy on us. In the victorious name of Jesus Christ, break the bondage of all sicknesses. The Holy Spirit shall manifest the salvation of Jesus Christ from us. We give you all the glory!  We thank you and we pray in the victorious name of Jesus, Amen!
