Today's Passage - John 2:4

John 2:4

"Woman, why do you involve me?" Jesus replied. "My hour has not yet come."

The wine ran out early when Jesus and his mother attended the wedding feast at Cana. His mother told Jesus: "They have no wine." Upon facing the difficulties, Jesus' mother brought them before Jesus. People often racked their brains to come up with their own solutions during difficult times; we would not turn to God until we ran ourselves into dead ends. In fact, God has prepared His grace for you, waiting to give it to you. When we humbly acknowledge our needs, God is willing to give His grace to the humble.

Jesus replied the mother: "Mother, why do you involve me? My hour has not yet come." Many people feel that Jesus is indifferent when they read this passage. But "mother" here refers to "woman" in the original text, and that is a title of honor at that era. Why would Jesus reply his mother this way? Because the mother was doing it right when she brought the needs before Jesus, but she thought she could order God by going above the Son of God. Jesus' mother actually implied: "Go do something! Aren't you my God-given son? Let's take care of this thing quickly!"

We often believe that we can command and control God, we even feel quite upset if God would not listen, however, the Lord never work by our plans and schedules. Therefore Jesus' reply in fact reminded the mother: "our real relationship is not a mother and son relationship, rather it's a God and people relationship." So we have to re-adjust our positions and attitudes, signs and wonders will only happen when people obey God and work by His will and time. Brothers and sisters, it's the same when we pray to God. Not only do we bring our needs before God, let us submit willingly and work by His time and will, let the will of God be satisfied.

Pray with Pastor Tong

Lord, have mercy on us, because our attitudes are often wrong. May you adjust our attitudes, let us humbly seek your will again, and let us willingly obey your will. Thank you and we pray in the victorious name of Jesus. Amen!
