John 4:11-14

Jesus answered, "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life."

The Bible clearly says that the things of the world will pass away. In the past, I went to New York Manhattan as a tourist. When I see the skyscrapers, I am deeply touched by how glorious a world-class city on earth can be! Later, I went to tour Ground Zero and saw the scene of the totally collapsed World Trade Center. In an instant, this huge tower can be totally turned into nothing! I can't stop sighing with sorrow. As the Bible says, the world and the things of the world can be turned into nothing in an instant. Thus, the Bible says, the things of the world are like the flowers of the field, the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the Lord endures forever. And only those who obey the will of God will endure forever. This is why the Lord says that everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again. If we just pursue the things of the world, we will discover that nothing can satisfy our heart and soul.

Many people pursue romantic love. But often times, romantic love is self-serving love and selfish love. As a result, many people stumble on the road of romantic love and get hurt. From this, we know that romantic love is not the answer for humankind. Some people think that pursuing money will satisfy us. Some even think that money can "make ghosts push the millstones for you" (Chinese saying). But in fact, at the end we will discover that the one "pushing the millstones" is not others, but it is ourselves! Not to mention, many people who have money are not truly happy, but instead have more worries. We might think that fame and status will satisfy us. But in fact, many celebrities have such lonely lives!  We might think that maybe a powerful position can truly satisfy us. Your powerful position can manage others, but you find that the powerful position is powerless to manage yourself.

When we survey the things of the world, there is really nothing that can truly satisfy us. The Lord Jesus says whoever has the living water I give, the spring of water of life, the new life in God, can be truly satisfied. Only God can give us peace, joy, true love and satisfaction. Brothers and sisters, are we still pursuing the things of the world? If you are still pursuing the things of the world, you will discover that you are still in the midst of emptiness. May God open our eyes to turn to him, to look to him, and to put our hope in the Savior who can satisfy our heart and soul. He is also the Lord of our life, the great shepherd of our life. Let us come to put our hope in him.

Pray with Pastor Tong

Dear Lord, I thank you. Only you are the God who leads me and satisfies me. Once again, I turn back and come before you. Open my heart to turn to you. May your Holy Spirit greatly fill me and satisfy me. I thank you and I pray in the victorious name of Jesus, Amen!
