Acts 25:23 - 26:8
Then Agrippa said to Paul, "You have permission to speak for yourself." So Paul motioned with his hand and began his defense: "... now it is because of my hope in what God has promised our fathers that I am on trial today. This is the promise our twelve tribes are hoping to see fulfilled as they earnestly serve God day and night. O king, it is because of this hope that the Jews are accusing me. Why should any of you consider it incredible that God raises the dead?"
Paul once again stood before King Agrippa to defend himself. From a human point of view, the constant appealing and the uncertainty is a really tough environment. In the book Philippians, Paul wrote, "I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation". Philippians 4:13 says: "I can do everything through him who gives me strength." This statement is impossible to achieve if you are rely solely on human strength. However, by the strength given by God, nothing is impossible.
God is Paul's hope and this hope brings strength to his life. "Hope" is something very important to a man. Someone once did an experiment with two white mice. He put one in each container. Both containers had the same amount of air and food, but one had two holes, while the other had no holes. It was discovered that the mouse in the container without any holes quickly lost the motivation to live, and died. The mouse in the container with the two holes kept trying to dig its way out of the hole since there was a glimmer of hope.

Similarly, those who live on earth but have no hope, are just like dead people. The question is that what do you place your hope in? If your hope is in a human being, when that person change, or becomes weak, your hope vanishes. If your hope is in the stock market, when the stock market crashes, you are dead. Hope needs to be based on our eternal Savior who never changes. He is the Lord of the universe and He holds the world in the palm of His hand. He is a God who loves you and wants to guide you every day of your life. No matter how your circumstances change, his faithfulness never changes. His grace, loving kindness and righteousness never changes. Today, he is still the God who lifts up the lowly, fights for justice for the wrongly-accused, and He provides for those who are in lack. If you place your hope in Him, you will have incredible strength to face all circumstances in your life.
Pray with Pastor Tong
Lord, we thank you because you are Paul's hope, and you gave him strength in the midst of difficult circumstances. We pray Lord today that you will be the hope in our hearts, so that we may live each day drawing our strength from you to overcome whatever difficulty we are in. We thank you and we pray in the victorious name of Jesus, Amen!
