Today's Passage - Matthew 6:11-15

Matthew 6:11-15
Give us today our daily bread.  And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.  But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
The Lord's Prayer not only uplifted the Kingdom of God, God also cares about our daily life. He gives us our daily bread, and He also wants us to show His glorious beauty in our daily life. 'Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors." The "debts" here are not just money, but also how we have forsaken God and others. In the original text, the word "sin" stands for "unpaid shortcoming." Jesus many times used the parable of debt to explain our relationship with God. We have sinned against God - Not only acts on sin on the outside, but more importantly disobedience and unfaithfulness inside. We have forsaken God and people but we've not repaid. Therefore, book of James says that it is a sin to know that we need to do good but not actually do it; sin is not just doing wrong things, but also not doing what we ought to do. There are many things that we ought to do in our lives but we instead hold back from doing them; so many times we are afraid to apologize, we fall short of encouraging someone, we don't expect our helping hands to someone in need, etc....  We repeatedly ignore God's voice inside us because of our pride and ego.
Why will God forgive us only if we confess our sins? Actually, God can easily forgive all our sins, but if we don't confess them, we won't be able to enjoy peace from confessing our sins. It's similar to a couple when they are fighting; someone time I fought with Mrs. Liu, and even though I knew I was wrong and I knew that she's very forgiving, as long as I refuse to say "I'm sorry, please forgive me," I would still feel awkward and won't be able to face her in peace. Confessing our sins is to put ourselves in position in order to once again face God in peace. Once our relationship with God is restored, we can once again have peace, joy and satisfaction in our heart and soul. "Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors." This is not a conditional clause - It's not like we must forgive the debts of others before the Lord will forgive our debt. Rather, if our sins are truly forgiven, we will receive a confirmation of the forgiveness, which is that will begin to forgive others. If we truly recognize how much Jesus Christ loves us and shed His blood for us, our hearts will surely be softened and we will be able to forgive all of those who have forsaken us before. Have you experience God's forgiving love in your life? Are you willing to forgive others in your daily life, remember what the Lord said: "If you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins."
Pray with Pastor Tong
Lord, I thank you because you provide us with all we need, and you forgive us even though we often forsake you. May your mercy come upon us, so that we may be willing to forgive others in our daily life like how you have forgiven us. I thank you and I pray in the victorious name of Jesus, amen!
