1 Corinthians 11:24-25
...And when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, "This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me." In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me."
Not only does the Holy Communion help us to remember how the Lord died for us, it is also significant for us today. In this passage, Jesus told us to "do this in remembrance of me." This commandment is in present tense and also progressive tense, which means we must continue to remember the Lord's life and be united with His life.
True love requires action; those who are love cannot just say "I love you" to each other, but never send each other flowers or remember each other's birthday. In the same way, when we remember the Lord, we must also pay the price of action. Being a Christian is not just about recounting a decision that we made long time ago; being a Christian being taking action and choose to follow God each and every day. As we face different temptations and circumstances, we must constantly examine ourselves to find out and remove what's impeding us from having our lives united with the Lord's life, so that our lives may please God.
I've found what worries the Holy Spirit most is that we don't value blessings from the Lord. Many Christians are really enthusiastic when discussing career, stocks, investment or real estate, but as soon as they attend the service, they look worn out and just wanted to sleep. When we go to work we are always on-time in order to please the boss, but how about attending Sunday service? Brothers and sisters, what is important to you? We often set very low standard for ourselves; we say how much we love the Lord, but our words are not worth much.
Why did God ask Abraham to sacrifice Isaac? We are often puzzled by what happened because God seemed to be really cruel. The fact is that back then, it was traditional for people to sacrifice their firstborns be the false gods. Therefore, God was challenging Abraham with this: If those who worship false gods can do this, can you do the same? Are you willing to sacrifice your beloved only son? God didn't mean to destroy Isaac, so later He prepared a lamb to replace Isaac. God's calling for us has never changed; it has always been the same as how he challenged Abraham: "Do you love me more than Isaac?" We must remember the love of Jesus Christ daily, and live for Him with all our heart and all our mind.
