1 Corinthians 26-34

For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes. Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. A man ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself...

Holy Communion not only helps us to remember that the Lord died for us in the past, but we may also bring our sins before the Lord and let the precious blood of Jesus Christ wash them away. So, Holy Communion also represents the present, which is to know how to live for the Lord every day because the Lord first loved us. Besides, the Holy Spirit also has meaning for the future, for we will receive the Holy Communion until Christ comes back again. In our hearts, we look forward to the Lord's return and how He welcomes His new brides to join Him in heaven. When that day comes, we will never again live in the bondage of our bodies.

In Romans, Paul said that he had a struggle with not able to do what he wanted to do but always end up doing what he didn't want to do. When we come before the Lord, however, we have a glorious hope that one day we will depart from the bondage of our bodies and be with the Lord forever. On that day, we will no longer need to receive the Holy Communion on earth, because Revelations 19 says that the wedding of the Lamb will come, where Jesus is the groom and we are the brides, and we will be together forever. I trust that everyone who's married knows that the day before the wedding is always the most exciting time and also the longest day. We'd be thinking constantly about the wedding tomorrow because we'll finally be able to be together with our lover; we 'd be waiting anxious for the wedding day, wishing that the day will come immediately.

Brothers and sisters, this is also our hope today. One day, the Lord will come for us so that we will never have to struggle in our bodies again; it will be a beautiful day! Whenever we receive the Holy Spirit, may the Lord place us such hope in our hearts. Just like what elderly John said in Revelations - "Come, Lord Jesus." Yes, the Lord will come again; the night might be long, but dawn is coming. That's why Paul said in Romans 13:11 that "the hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber." May the Lord help us to depart from darkness and enter into light of the Lord, so that we may be determined to live for the Lord till He comes back again!

Lord, I thank you because we have a glorious hope in our hearts that one day we will be freed from the bondage of our bodies to be with you forever. May your place such glorious hope deep down in our hearts to become the momentum for our daily life. I thank you and I pray in the victorious name of Jesus, amen!
