Psalm 27:7-14

Hear my voice when I call, Lord; be merciful to me and answer me. My heart says of you, "Seek his face!" Your face, Lord, I will seek. Do not hide your face from me, do not turn your servant away in anger; you have been my helper. Do not reject me or forsake me, God my Savior...

The Lord issued a calling in verse 8: "Seek His face", and the psalmist responded: "You face, Lord, I will seek." Lord Jesus has repeatedly said "come to me", and I believe the Lord is still calling us today, saying to us: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest; those who come to be will not be hungry, and whoever believes in me shall not thirst; I will not forsake anyone who comes to me." Jesus Christ is eager to see us before Him, because He knows that He's the only one who can give us true satisfaction in life. Only He can satisfy the thirst in our hearts and He's the only one whom we seek in our life.

Jesus never forces us, but rather He simply invites us to "come to me and seek my face." We, however, don't like to come before the Lord. Instead, we like to go to worship to enjoy peace in our soul in a pleasant atmosphere; we like to join small group and church and have a good time with our friends; we like to attend big meetings because it's bustling with people; we like to come before people to listen to words of wisdom; we like to go into doctrines because they satisfy our rationality and our own pride; we like most to go to traditions because we feel safe in them and will keep us out of areas of uncertainty. We like to go to many different places, but we like to keep a safe distance from God.

The Lord's heart is desperate, for He wants to calls us to seek His face. The Lord says that those who are thirsty can come to me. The Lord hopes that we will be close to Him, because He wants to be close to us. When we come before God, we often only value the things that God can give us; if God doesn't give us what we want, we actually get mad at Him, as if God doesn't treat us well. Actually, God knows that the things we ask for never be able to satisfy our inner needs, but rather it's Him that we need. May God help us not to just gaze from a distance, but to go near Him. Brothers and sisters, where's your heart and mind? Let us focus on the Lord, and let us seek Him and look upon Him!

Pray with Pastor Tong

Dear Lord, we once again ask that you draw us near you, and let us be close to you. Let us seek your face daily so that we may enjoy true satisfaction with your presence in our lives. I thank you and I pray in the victorious name of Jesus, amen!
