Psalm 27:1-6
The Lord is my light and my salvation - whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life - of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked advance against me to devour me, it is my enemies and my foes who will stumble and fall. Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then I will be confident. One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.
Verse four says that "One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life." In the original text, the word for "dwelling" meant to stay in front of the Lord. Staying in front of the Lord all the days of our life and to gaze on His beauty means to enjoy the Lord's presence and getting to know His abundance. Even though the Lord is constantly with us, do we often choose to be in His presence? When Jesus entered the house of Martha and Mary, Martha was busy hosting Jesus, but Mary simply sat beside the feet of Jesus. Was the Lord with Martha? Of course He was with her, but Martha wasn't with Jesus. Only Mary chose the better blessing - being close to Lord Jesus. Brothers and sisters, do you enjoy the presence of God? It actually doesn't matter what we do, but our attitude really matters. Whether we are driving, working or even having fun, the Lord's presence is with us, and we also enjoy being with Him. Let the Lord manifest His true presence in our daily life!
Also, it's say here that there's only "one thing I ask", not many things. We unfortunately are hindered by having too many things going on, so it's hard for us to be near God. We no longer thirst for God and actively seek His face. There are too many things we need to do, so we don't have time to spend with God. No wonder we feel thirsty inside our hearts. Nowadays, many Christians seek wisdom, good food, comfortable life, fame and even hard work in our lives, but Ecclesiastes clearly says that everything is meaningless. Jeremiah also said that the people of God did two evil things: To forsake the Lord, the source of our living water, and to carve out a pool for ourselves that breaks and leaks water. Doesn't this depict our situation? When we forsake God's face and want to seek satisfaction in our own ways, we end up getting into more meaningless things. May the Lord help us, let us come before the Lord to do just one thing - Seek His face and enjoy His presence!
