Psalm 19:7-14
The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes. The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever. The decrees of the Lord are firm, and all of them are righteous. They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the honeycomb. By them your servant is warned; in keeping them there is great reward. But who can discern their own errors? Forgive my hidden faults. Keep your servant also from willful sins; may they not rule over me. Then I will be blameless, innocent of great transgression...
The word of the Lord is so precious, for it refreshes our souls. Our souls used to be asleep, we don't understand and don't know God; however, now that we are awakened, we can meet Him face to face, and our hearts have once again have joy. First and foremost, God's word can awaken our hearts and help us to understand His word. Second, God's word is the truth, and truth gives us wisdom. When we are faced with all kinds of choices before us in life, we don't know how to make the best decisions. We can see the solutions provided by God and make the best decisions for all the difficult situations in life only if we receive wisdom from God.
Third, God's word brings our hearts joy. When are face with all kinds of hardship and pressure in life, our hearts feel depressed and cannot be joyful.. When we read God's word, however, our hearts are freed and we no longer have fear and sadness. His word will bring joy to our hearts, hallelujah! Fourth, God's word can cleanse our heart and give light to our eyes. In other word, we will no longer live under the authority of sin and darkness. Our greatest weakness is that we don't know our own weaknesses, and we often don't even know that we are blind. Once we read God's word, it will enlighten our eyes so that we will see our sin and weakness. We can then turn back before God and ask for God's forgiveness. God will enlighten us and cleanse us with the precious blood of the Lord, in order for us to turn back before God.
Finally, the scripture says that God's word is more precious than gold and sweeter than honey. Not only should we read it, we should also meditate upon God's word. The more we think about it, the sweeter is God's word, and more precious it feels. No only should we ponder on God's word, we should also obey it, so that we won't commit "willful sins," and no allow any sin to rule over us. This is how you can understand God's will more clearly in your heart, and truly recognize how precious God's word is!
