John 10: 40-42
Then Jesus went back across the Jordan to the place where John had been baptizing in the early days. There he stayed, and many people came to him. They said, "Though John never performed a sign, all that John said about this man was true." And in that place many believed in Jesus.
We see many people came to Jesus, they said, "Though John never performed a sign, all that John said about this man was true." Brothers and sisters, the more I think about the ministries of John the Baptist, the more I respect this servant of God. From a human perspective we would not envy the life of John the Baptist. His ministry on earth was this one thing: point to this Messiah upon his appearance, and said, "Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!"
John the Baptist will probably be better off if Jesus Christ has not appeared in his days. Because no matter what he would be the greatest prophet and God's servant. When Jesus Christ got baptized the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and remain on him, John the Baptist knew immediately that Jesus is the Christ, the son of God. Therefore he declared to the world, "Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!" Once John the Baptist proclaimed, suddenly the attention began to shift, focusing on Jesus Christ, even his followers left John to follow Jesus.
Once John the Baptist proclaimed such, his ministries were essentially over. No one else paid him any attention nor listened to him from that moment. Can you imagine the internal struggles going through John the Baptist? Whenever I think about John the Baptist, I really appreciate this servant of God, because he knows his only act in life is to exalt Jesus Christ. Here it says, John never performed a sign, but all that he said about Jesus Christ was true. Hallelujah! No wonder he would say, "Lord! May you become greater and I become less." Hopefully this will become the prayer of our hearts.
