Luke 8:45-48
"'Who touched me?' Jesus asked. When they all denied it, Peter said, 'Master, the people are crowding and pressing against you.' But Jesus said, 'Someone touched me; I know that power has gone out from me.' Then the woman, seeing that she could not go unnoticed, came trembling and fell at his feet. In the presence of all the people, she told why she had touched him and how she had been instantly healed. Then he said to her, 'Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace.'"
When Jesus was ministering in Galilee, there were always crowds of spectators around Him. Some liked to listen to His preaching, others wanted to see the miracles He performed. When Jesus went to the house of Jairus, the crowd was excited because they thought something spectacular was about to happen, and they wondered what miracle Jesus will perform. Suddenly, Lord Jesus stopped and asked, "who touched me?" The disciples must be wondering about what Jesus said, because there were a lot of people around Jesus who could have touched His cloth. But Jesus was sure that someone has received His power by faith, because He could feel that power went out from Him. Therefore, He stopped to find the woman who was healed.
The woman was healed because of her faith. Everyone who's a disciple of the Lord must envy this woman for having such great faith. Although we might not have bleeding problem right now, we do face all types of pressure and difficulties in life; we are constantly changing job, but our career is not advancing; we are trying hard at home, but relationship with our spouse is not getting any better; we are persevering under the pressure of life, but bitterness in our heart is not lessening. We are eager to experience the Lord's omnipotence and to enter the peace of the Lord like this woman did.
Many people wanted get close to Jesus, but only this woman was healed. Similarly, many people like to attend meeting, listen to sermon and watch what will happen, but do we have a genuine faith to ask in the name of the Lord? We will receive all the abundant grace that God has prepared for us only when we eagerly hold on to Jesus like this woman did. Are you one just close to Jesus, or are you touching Jesus by faith? May God grant us the faith of the woman.
