Luke 24:25-29
He said to them, 'How foolish you are, and how slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Did not the Christ have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?' And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself. As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus acted as if he were going farther. But they urged him strongly, 'Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over.' So he went in to stay with them.
In this passage, the Lord rebuked these two disciples that they were "slow of heart to believe..." They were slow not because they didn't believe, but because they didn't understand God's promise and act. God's word is the ultimate important thing in our life; we can't experience God's presence because we don't understand His promise and principles. Many people treat the Bible rather casually, for they glance through the Bible and don't know what they are reading, and that why they don't have strength from God in their daily life. We need to study God's word diligently, because only God's word can bring you true faith.
When the father of an epileptic child brought the child to Jesus and asked Him for healing, the Lord didn't say whether He could or could not heal the child, but the Lord asked him whether he believed, and that if he believed, anything would be possible. The Bible clearly tells us that "these signs will accompany those who believe." Notice that it doesn't say the believers are following the miracles, but rather miracles will follow the believers and be manifested though them. The crisis of the intelligentsia is that we think we know and have heard everything; however, that doesn't mean we actually believe what we've heard. For the same reason, Jesus didn't immediately tell them who He was, but He first brought the disciples into the word of God.
God is present with us not only when we are reading the Bible or praying, but God is always with us - during our daily life, while we are driving, when we make decision, or even when we are confused and depressed. No matter whether we've noticed, He's always with us, and the Holy Spirit is living within us and constantly reminding us about the word of Jesus Christ. When you are reading God's word, the Holy Spirit will enlighten you and remind you about the Lord's promises and His presence. Regardless of whether you have noticed, He is with you and He's right beside you to help you. When we are in life's junction, we might think we are fighting on by ourselves, but you need to see that throughout the process, the Lord is always walking with you!
