Colossians 3:16
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.
First of all, Paul advised that we need to use "all wisdom" to read God's Word. Many people would read the Bible once and don't really understand it, and then just give up on the Bible because they were bored of it. Paul, however, instructed us to read the Bible with all wisdom. When seeking knowledge of the world, people use all types of wisdom, don't they? When learning about computers, they'd study the instruction manual closely, and try every possible way to understand it. Some people go to work during the day, attend classes at night, and even visit technical conferences just so that they would keep on learning and they'll experience new breakthrough. Have you ever considered putting in so much effort in God's Word? If you don't understand what you read, you can also check reference books. If you still don't get it, you may attend Sunday school or special conferences in order to have a rich spiritual life. As a Christian, you need to learn to be responsible for your own spiritual life, and you need to use all wisdom to study God's Word.
Next, you need to let the teaching of Christ "dwell in you richly,' not just one or two verses. How much of God's Word is in you? When asked to recite a version, many will simply recite John 3:16, maybe not even in entirety. When Lord Jesus was tempted in the wilderness, He didn't bring the Old Testament scrolls with Him to look up verses, but He placed God's Word in His heart so that he could use it to respond to devil's temptations! Brothers and sisters, not only should we study the Bible, we also need to use all wisdom to memorize God's Word.
Third, we need to keep teachings of Christ in our heart and draw God's Word into our heart. Meditate on the Lord's Word all the time, and think about what He wants us to learn. How do we apply the Lord's Word in our life? As soon as you decide to follow God's Word, you will find that reading the Bible is not boring, because God's Word has much to do with you, as it will impact your life, and impact your spiritual wellbeing.
Very often we ask the Lord to revive us, but revival of the Lord cannot be set apart from the Word of the Lord. The revival of the Lord will always begin with love of and obedience to the Word of the Lord. Let us have an eager heart to read His Word!
Pray with Pastor Tong
Lord Jesus, may you come and open my heart again, and let me recognize the preciousness of your Word. Help me to use all wisdom to keep your Word in me richly, and let your Word become the lamp of my feet and light to my path to guide me unto the way of righteousness. I thank you and I pray in the victorious name of Jesus, amen!
