Luke 20:27-36
Some of the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to Jesus with a question. 'Teacher,' they said, 'Moses wrote for us that if a man's brother dies and leaves a wife but no children, the man must marry the widow and have children for his brother. Now there were seven brothers. The first one married a woman and died childless. The second and then the third married her, and in the same way the seven died, leaving no children. Finally, the woman died too. Now then, at the resurrection whose wife will she be, since the seven were married to her?'
Jesus replied, 'The people of this age marry and are given in marriage. But those who are considered worthy of taking part in that age and in the resurrection from the dead will neither marry nor be given in marriage, and they can no longer die; for they are like the angels. They are God's children, since they are children of the resurrection.'
What happens after death? The Lord showed us here that when we are in heaven, we will not be married, and relationship between people is far less significant than relationship between God and people. Our relationship with the Lord in heaven will be closer than our relationship with our family. Everyone will surround the throne and be face-to-face with God, and our soul will be satisfied because of love of the Lord.
Many people in the church have wrong understanding of what's to come in the future, for they believe that there are large and small houses, and high and low positions. Those who served the Lord more will live in big houses, while those who served less will live in small houses. If that's true, then there is social inequality in the heaven. The reward we will receive in the future is actually based on the love between us and the Lord. Everyone will be satisfied by love of the Lord in heaven; however, those who loved the Lord more will have more inner joy when they meet the Lord face-to-face. There is a hymn titled "Smile on the Lord's face is my joy." When we love the Lord, smile on the Lord's face is our greatest reward. The more we love the Lord, the more we will be satisfied by such reward. It is difficult to describe the reward we'll receive in heaven by equating them with the things on earth.
We are very poor spiritual because we often think the world is better than the heaven. One time, a good friend passed away in a traffic accident, and I was saddened and I asked the Lord why it happened to him. Spirit of the Lord reminded me: We should only ask why when someone goes to a undesirable place, so do you actually believe that the world is better than the world? Since then, I no longer grieve for those who passed away in the Lord, because I know they have gone to a more beautiful place. Do you have such assurance? May the Lord place such hope inside your heart!
