1 John 1:5-6 "This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth." God is light, and light has several characteristics: First of all, light contrasts with darkness. When a person is in the darkness, he won't see how filthy he is. Have you ever tried to clean a dark room? You would think that it's already clean, when once light comes in you will see that the room is filled with dust and spider web. Why didn't you see it before? It's because there's no light. When light comes into us, darkness will be removed and we will see our own filthiness, thus we will be drawn by the light to enter into it. Many people live in the authority of darkness - even some believers are. That is why John said: "If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth." And we're not really walking in the light of truth. Indeed, many people are living in deception; they cannot honestly face God and people, and they cannot face themselves. People who live in deception can become proud and jealous of others, because they cannot accept themselves or others. Many people live in such circumstances are filled with hatred and bitterness, and they have no joy inside. Their life will only be touched and turned around from being in darkness to being in light when the true light of the Lord shines into them, and they will no longer be bound by the spirit of deception. Moreover, this light will bring forth warmth. Places with no light are filled with chilliness, and for many life is filled with circumstance of chilliness. Many families appear to be doing well - Husbands are working extremely hard and wives are taking care of home with no complaints, but the atmosphere at their homes are always chilly. This is particular true in Chinese society; many people fulfill their duties earnestly, but they have no warmth inside. Churches are the same, for many people treat their faith as an obligation, something they just want to get over with, but they have no fire inside. No wonder some people describe Christians as fireflies; they may appear to be bright, but they are not warm when you hold them in your hand. The Lord said to those who are lukewarm that He will spit them out of His mouth. May the Lord help us to shine His light upon us and melt our cold hearts so that we will open ourselves to God. Pray with Pastor Tong Liu Lord, may your light shine upon the brothers and sisters who are in chilly darkness; in the victorious name of Jesus I rebuke all authorities of darkness. May your spirit release them and so that they may enjoy the warmth in your arm. I thank you in the victorious name of Jesus, amen! |
