1 John 1:7-8
"But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from allsin. If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us."
John said: "If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves." What is sin? We Chinese always feel that we are brought up with moral teachings, and we are methodical. We would think that just by our deeds, God should open the door to Heaven for us. But while people judge each other by their appearances, God judge us by our heart. How many of us dare to expose their each and every thought to the public? No one dares, because there is darkness inside us.
The true sin lies not in our outward deeds, but in our heart. No matter how you look at sins, as a human being we have to admit that there is a force inside us to keep us from doing what is good that we are willing to do, and force us to do what is evil that we are not willing to do. The evil here is not necessarily something really bad. It might be something trivial in our daily life, such as losing our temper. We know it is not good to lose our temper. Not only we make enemies with others by doing so, it is not healthy to us either. But when we lose temper, our anger is just like the uncontrollable flood. We always regret afterwards, hoping that we will never lose our temper again. But we keep doing that, as if we can never overcome that force inside us.
Actually apart from losing our temper, if we are willing to humble ourselves and examine our hearts, we will find that we are bound by many things. And the sins inside us not only take away our joy and peace, but also destroy our relationships with each other. What is more, they also separate us from God. Many people are filled with hatred. They cannot forgive others. Or they are filled with pride, or other immoral thoughts that they can never overcome. Our Lord came only to look for people to save, for the salvation Jesus Christ accomplished on the cross for us can deliver us from the bondage of all evils.
No matter what puts you in bondage that seems never to be broken, Jesus can set you free today. As long as you seek Him, you will be able to live in the light of the Lord.
