The ministry of the apostles had the following characteristics:
First, supernatural power in their ministry is very common. When the apostles preached, they performed signs and wonders as well, and verse 12, says there were "many" signs and wonders, not merely one or two on occasion. Verse 16 says that many crowds gathered bringing their sick before the apostles, and "all of them were healed". This goes to show that the hand of God worked mightily through the apostles.
Second, the sick came from the towns around Jerusalem, but how did these people hear about the apostles? I believe it was by word of mouth. When those who were healed returned to their hometown, the good news spreaded. We learn here that the gospel does not spread by just the efforts of one or two people. It depends on each and every individual believer. When a person receives the benefits of the gospel and returns home to share the good news with others, the people around him will also get to hear the gospel, and be healed.
Third, there is a special phenomenon in that the people even believed that the sick could be healed if Peter's shadow fall on them as he passed by. The anointing of the Holy Spirit was powerfully manifested in the apostles as they minister. Mark 16:20 says, "the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it". The church is the body of Christ. Just as how Jesus operated under the anointing of the Holy Spirit when He was on earth, so should the church. John 14:12 says, " anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing".
Jesus did two things wherever He went: First, He preached the gospel and secondly, He healed the sick. As such, we must not only preach the gospel, but we should be healing the sick as well, by the power of the Holy Spirit, so that the gospel may be preached throughout the earth!
