God's word is binding, it's not just some ambiguous statements. God never takes His word back, and every sentence He speaks carries power. Therefore, we must "we must pay the most careful attention... to what we have heard." "What we have heard" refers specifically to the salvation brought by Jesus. Bible says that Jesus is the Son of God, not just a historic figure. Many likes to discuss in theological terms about Jesus in history, and critique how Jesus in the Bible was written in different times or appended later. They try to use all kinds of analyses to prove that Jesus Christ was a mere human. The Bible, on the other hand, specifically says that Jesus is not only a perfect man, but also the perfect God. Jesus resurrected from death and proved that He is indeed the Son of God. This truth isn't just recorded in the Bible, but it was even mentioned in the book written by Jewish historian Flavius Josephus. He wrote that the disciples of Jesus proclaimed that Jesus resurrected from death, and not only that the empty tomb also proved that Jesus Christ had indeed resurrected. When you visit Jerusalem, you would visit the tomb of Jesus. The Lord's resurrection from death proved that He's the Son of God; Bible clearly says so, and we need believe what it says.
Also, Jesus is the only way, truth and life. Many have tried other ways to find God; some tried to restored morality, some tried to reform education, and some tried to do good deeds; but unless the problem of sin is resolved, there's no way for human beings to come before holy God. That's why Jesus had to be born to the world, nailed on the cross on our behalf and die for our sins. He must bear the penalty of sin from God on the cross so that we can be delivered from the bondage of sin. He also must be resurrected from death, because his resurrection proved that He could indeed overcome death and the authority of darkness. This is not only the truth, but also power that we can exercise daily. Today, Jesus wants to become our way, truth and life. This is not an ambiguous truth. When we read God's word, we must pay careful attention and receive it by faith, so that His truth can set us free.
