The author of Hebrews encouraged believers at that time not to throw away their confidence. The character that Chinese Christians need most is to be strong and courageous for the Lord. We are too weak and too afraid of losing face. Forget about going out to preach the gospel, we do not even dare to hand out tracts on the street. We do not dare to even admit that we are Christians in the company or at home. Some people do not dare to give thanks for their food in public places. They just pretend to wipe their glasses, or deliberately drop the napkin on the floor, so they can quickly say grace before their meals. Hence I say, we really need a courageous heart.

A testimony of a teenager really touched my heart. During class, the teacher asked for him to submit a report explaining evolution. Not only did he refuse to do that, he wrote a paper explaining why evolution was wrong. As a result, he got an "F" in class. I applaud this teenager for his courage. If it were your child, how would you react? Would you scold him and say, "Can't you be flexible? This is just a homework and you should just give the teacher what he wants. As long as you believe in creationism in your heart, your grades are more important!" Or would you support him?

Why should we not throw away our confidence? Because we need to persevere and endure before God and wait until we see God's will accomplished before we can receive God's promises and blessings. The church back then was weak and retreated because they could not see God's promises. They lost heart as they were waiting. The author of Hebrews encouraged them to persevere because only after experiencing this journey can they enjoy God's perfect will. Of course, in the meantime, the enemy will attack us, but we should not lose heart, but keep pressing on. Are you waiting for God's promises to be fulfilled? Are you discouraged in your wait? Ask God to help us not live by sight, but by faith, and rely on Him each day. Jesus Christ is the author and perfecter of our faith, and He will give us the desires of our hearts!
