Hebrews 11:13-16
All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance. And they admitted that they were aliens and strangers on earth. People who say such things show that they are looking for a country of their own. Instead, they were longing for a better country - a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.
All the giants of faith recognized the promises from God, understood His deeds and received God's word. It's hard for believers today to receive God's promises and believe in what God can do on us because of three reasons:
First, we don't dare to believe God's promises. The enemy constantly deceives us, making us afraid of accepting God's promises. I often speak about James chapter five, how the prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective, but I'd find the congregation with intrigued expression on their faces. When I question them whether they think they are righteous, they acknowledge that they don't think they are. When we come before God by faith, we are all righteous, because we've already been justified by faith. Therefore, our prayer before God is greatly effective. May God help us, release us from our disbelief in His promises.
Second, we don't want to believe in God's promises because we are proud. We believe that God's grace is reserved for those who are weak, and God's healing is for those who are wounded, and we don't need either one. Guess what - When you reject the Lord's grace you are actually rejecting the Lord, because you have pride inside and you feel you are stronger than others, so you don't really need the Lord. Actually, we are all poor and we all need the Lord! Let us humble ourselves before God, because the Bible says that "God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble."
Third, we cannot believe in the promises of God. When God promised to give Abraham a son, at first Abraham couldn't believe it, and Sarah even laughed as she hid behind the tent. In God, however, nothing is impossible. Back in the early days of Israelites, the name that God revealed to the ancestors of Israel was "El Shaddai," the Almighty God, as nothing is impossible for Him. In the same manner, nothing is impossible for God to accomplish in our lives - He's still El Shaddai the Almighty God, so let us know solely look upon Him and depend on Him!
Pray with Pastor Tong
In the victorious name of Jesus, I pray that the spirits of not daring to believe, not willing to believe and cannot believe will be cut off from the lives of brothers and sisters! May the Lord release us to accept your promises and enter into the truth of your word, so that we may live out a victorious life. I thank you and I pray in the name of Jesus, amen!
