We are often confused by the verse "things that accompany salvation". The author seems to exhort the behavior of brothers and sister of that time, which was better than those who insisted on resisting. But why "accompany salvation", as if no salvation yet? Indeed, there are three implications pertaining to salvation in the Bible: past, present, and future. 2 Corinthian 1:10 says: "He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us. On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us"
.
First, "has delivered" refers to salvation of spirit. Jesus Christ died for us on the cross, saving us from the eternal death. In Christ, we were saved, received full rights of sons, spiritual salvation. Second, it refers to salvation of heart, salvation of present. Jesus wants us to be released from the power of sins daily, no longer be bonded by sins. Finally, its means future, redemption of bodies. When Christ comes again, our body will change. Roman 13:11 says: "And do this, understanding the present time. The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed." Here, it means salvation of body, salvation of future.
.
On the other hand, we are thankful that even though our hope is in the future, God is not unjust, such that He will forget what we have done. God remembers us, has mercy on our weakness. Although we sometimes falter and fail, as well as sin, He never forgets that we are weak. Moreover, He will not forget our work. He will remember what we have done on His body, what we have done to His people. If you are in Christ, be fully confident that Lord will be your help and strength today, He is always your hope!
